The Parmel Corridor Incident

Imperial Entanglement in the Parmel Corridor

Campaign: The Shattered Balance

Character Episode: Cassian Valeris

System: WEG D6 Star Wars

Written by DM Ed

Cassian Valeris has never considered himself a smuggler.

He prefers the term private citizen engaged in independent travel.

Unfortunately, the Empire does not appreciate such distinctions.

While en route to Bothawui, Cassian’s luxury yacht The Silent Mandate encounters a small but inconvenient Imperial complication.

Which, for this episode, means:

A Gamorrean has the pie.

The Framework

Adventure Background

Cassian Valeris is traveling through the Parmel Sector Corridor, an Outer Rim hyperspace lane that eventually connects to routes leading toward Bothawui.

Imperial presence in the sector has increased dramatically over the past year.

Officially this is for anti-piracy patrols.

Unofficially it is to intercept individuals attempting to reach Rebel-friendly systems.

A small Imperial patrol group has deployed interdiction buoys in the corridor.

Cassian’s ship emerges from hyperspace far earlier than expected.

Unfortunately, he is not alone.

The Hook

(The Pie)

Cassian must reach Bothawui without Imperial inspection.

Unfortunately an Imperial customs corvette has detected his vessel.

Even worse…

A small Gamorrean mercenary crew aboard a nearby salvage tug has decided that Cassian’s elegant yacht looks extremely valuable.

They want the ship.

Or at least the wine cellar.

The Location

(The Room)

The encounter takes place in open space near an asteroid cluster used as a salvage zone.

Key elements of the environment:

• scattered mining asteroids

• floating scrap platforms

• an Imperial interdiction buoy

• debris from old mining operations

• limited sensor visibility

This creates excellent terrain for:

  • piloting checks

  • sensor rolls

  • stealthy maneuvering

  • ambushes

The Obstacle

(The Gamorrean)

Two threats converge simultaneously.

Imperial Customs Corvette

A Raider-class customs patrol vessel responding to the interdiction buoy.

Crew intent: inspect Cassian’s ship.

Which would lead to:

• identity checks

• cargo scans

• uncomfortable questions about his destination

Cassian would prefer to avoid this.

Gamorrean Salvage Tug

A beat-up salvage vessel crewed by three Gamorrean mercenaries and a human mechanic.

Their plan is simple:

Disable Cassian’s ship.

Board it.

Steal anything valuable.

They particularly want the yacht’s luxury hyperdrive and wine cellar.

Gamorreans are not subtle.

They begin by firing ion cannons.

Shipboard Ally

Z.E.M.O.

Cassian’s shipboard AI-assisted droid system.

Z.E.M.O. — Zenith Electronic Management Officer

Z.E.M.O. is integrated directly into The Silent Mandate’s control systems.

Functions include:

• navigation assistance

• astrogation calculation

• sensor analysis

• damage control coordination

• refined conversational sarcasm

Personality profile:

Polite.

Efficient.

Mildly judgmental.

Z.E.M.O. frequently reminds Cassian when he is doing something unwise but statistically interesting.

Example dialogue:

“Cassian, three hostile vessels are targeting us.

I estimate the probability of survival increases dramatically if you stop lecturing them about Senate procedure.”

Scene Structure

Scene 1 – The Hyperspace Problem

Cassian drops from hyperspace unexpectedly.

Z.E.M.O. reports:

• Interdiction buoy detected

• Imperial patrol inbound

• Salvage tug powering weapons

Players roll:

Astrogation

to calculate an alternate jump vector.

Failure means:

The calculation takes longer.

More enemies arrive.

Scene 2 – Gamorreans Attack

The salvage tug opens fire.

Gamorreans attempt to disable the yacht’s engines.

Players roll:

Space Transports – evasive maneuvers

Starship Gunnery – defensive fire

Shields – divert power

Environmental complications:

• asteroids

• mining debris

• ion interference

Creative players might:

• hide in asteroid shadows

• lure enemies toward the Imperial patrol

• trigger a debris collision

Scene 3 – Imperial Arrival

The Imperial customs corvette enters sensor range.

They broadcast:

“Unidentified vessel, power down your engines and prepare for inspection under Imperial Navigation Authority.”

At this point Cassian has choices:

• fight the Gamorreans

• evade the Empire

• trick the Imperials into targeting the salvage tug

Z.E.M.O. helpfully suggests:

“Cassian, transmitting the Gamorrean vessel as a pirate contact would reduce our risk of inspection by approximately 78 percent.”

Scene 4 – The Escape

To escape successfully Cassian must:

• evade the Gamorreans

• avoid Imperial tractor lock

• complete a hyperspace calculation

Players roll:

Astrogation (Moderate to Difficult)

Success means:

The Silent Mandate jumps cleanly to hyperspace.

Failure means:

The Imperial patrol nearly intercepts them before they escape.

The Reward

(The Pie)

Cassian escapes Imperial space.

During sensor analysis, Z.E.M.O. detects something interesting.

The Gamorrean tug’s transmissions contained encrypted navigation data.

Coordinates.

Not Imperial.

Not commercial.

The signal appears to be routed through Bothawui intelligence networks.

Z.E.M.O. reports:

“Cassian… it appears the Gamorreans were attempting to intercept a courier route used by Bothan intelligence.

I believe you have just discovered the very contact you were hoping to find.”

Cassian now possesses:

Encrypted coordinates to a Bothan intelligence relay near Bothawui.

The Resolution

Cassian pours himself a glass of wine from his Core Worlds collection.

The stars stretch into hyperspace.

Z.E.M.O. quietly recalculates their course.

Cassian reflects on the evening.

Imperial patrols.

Gamorrean pirates.

Rebel intelligence signals.

It seems the galaxy has become a very inconvenient place for a retired civil servant.

But perhaps…

Also a very interesting one.
