Rod of Pholtus

Rod of Pholtus

Rod, Legendary (requires attunement by a cleric or paladin of Pholtus)

This ivory rod, shod in silver and topped with an electrum sun-disk, is imbued with the divine power of Pholtus, the god of Light, Resolution, Law, Order, Inflexibility, Sun, and Moons. The Rod of Pholtus is a versatile tool and weapon, capable of transforming into various forms and channeling divine energy.

Powers

The Rod of Pholtus has the following properties, which are activated by pressing one of six buttons along its length. Each transformation is instantaneous and does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

  1. Battleaxe: When you press the first button, the rod transforms into a +3 battleaxe. You can change it back by pressing the button again.

  2. Flaming Longsword: When you press the second button, the rod transforms into a +2 flaming longsword. You can change it back by pressing the button again.

  3. Spear: When you press the third button, the rod transforms into a +3 longspear. You can change it back by pressing the button again.

  4. Climbing Pole: When you press the fourth button, the rod transforms into a 50-foot pole that adheres to any surface on command, allowing you to climb without a Climb check. The pole can support up to 500 pounds. You can command it to return to its original form by pressing the button again.

  5. Paralyzing Ray: When you press the fifth button, the rod emits a paralyzing ray in a 60-foot line, 5 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a DC 17 Fortitude saving throw or be paralyzed for 1d6+1 rounds. This ability can be used three times per day.

  6. Healing Light: When you press the sixth button, the rod channels the divine healing light of Pholtus. This allows you to cast heal (as the spell) once per day. You can change it back by pressing the button again.

Additional Properties

  • Light of Pholtus: The rod emits bright light in a 30-foot radius and shadowy illumination for an additional 30 feet. This light is equivalent to daylight for the purpose of dispelling darkness.

  • Lawful Authority: While attuned to the rod, you gain a +4 bonus on Charisma checks when dealing with lawful creatures and a +2 bonus on Diplomacy and Intimidate checks.

  • Divine Protection: You gain a +2 deflection bonus to AC while holding the rod.

  • Turn Undead: If you are a cleric or paladin, you can use the rod to channel positive energy to turn undead as if you were 4 levels higher than your actual level.

Attunement

To attune to the Rod of Pholtus, you must spend a long rest (8 hours) in prayer and meditation, dedicating yourself to the service of Pholtus. Only a cleric or paladin who worships Pholtus can attune to the rod.

By wielding the Rod of Pholtus, you embody the unyielding light and resolute authority of Pholtus, bringing law and order to the world while dispelling darkness and chaos.
