Did you feel that the film stayed true to the spirit of the original "Dungeons and Dragons" game?

@SplashDamage1

“Indeed. The film itself was done well.”

@GeekMid

Yep, absolutely - classes, creatures and even the feel of multiple quests across a campaign came across really well.

@Dice_N_Andy

Absolutely. As I watched the movie, I felt I could see the players and DM at the table, all the planning that they did around the table, all the decisions the DM made and how that affected the game. Where all the bad rolls were, all the metagaming happening - seriously, everyone knows what a Time Stop spell is?! METAGAMING - all the mishap and mayhem and "we were just trying to see my daughter! Why are we saving the world from necromancers?!" The humorous moments, the DMPC Paladin, the random encounters, the "DM needing to get the players across a bridge they destroyed so they gave the party a portal gun because they were playing portal too much last night and it was all they could think of in the moment". A character even has a gag fixation on potatoes that is brought back and saves the day, and you can SEE the players jumping up around the table as that happens! But it was also very "found family", and that is so true for so many of us that LOVE this game. It's violently passionate about D&D, and it does so by being a great fantasy story that just happens to be set in D&D.

@TabletopSandbox

Yes, at least to the tropes of a common game of 5e.

@Mimozka0293

Yes. It was. In essence it was fun. You could even tell when they'd "roll a nat 1". Characters were allowed to fail, to win, and to use their creativity and imagination. Meanwhile the BBEG they thought they were fighting turned out to be small fish compared to the actual BBEG (as usual)

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

Surprisingly, yes ... despite WOTC's attempts to over monetize the brand, delete the OGL and insult fans with racist remarks.

Chris Miller

Official D&D hasn't been true to the spirit of the game for a long time.
