The Shattered Balance – House Rules & Campaign Structure

Welcome to the Galaxy Between Shadows

The Shattered Balance campaign is not your typical run-and-gun space opera. This is a slow-burn narrative set in the cracks of the Empire—where unknowns, drifters, and survivors shape the fate of the galaxy without ever making the holonews.

This is the story of the Nobodies.

Built using the classic Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and The Star Wars Sourcebook, and grounded in canon geography via Star Wars Galaxy Map, this campaign blends old-school D6 mechanics with a modern narrative structure.

Campaign Structure: The Nobodies Trilogy System

At the heart of Shattered Balance is a rotating spotlight system:

Phase 1: The Nobodies Series (Small Sessions)

  • Players operate solo or in small teams (1–3 players)

  • Missions are personal, gritty, and often disconnected… at first

  • Each session builds individual arcs, secrets, and consequences

These are called “Nobodies Episodes”

You are not heroes.
You are not rebels (yet).
You are not important… until you are.

Phase 2: Convergence Session (All Players)

  • All players come together for a major story event

  • Threads from prior Nobodies sessions collide

  • Choices made in isolation now have shared consequences

This is where:

  • Alliances form (or break)

  • Secrets are revealed

  • The galaxy pushes back

Phase 3: Trilogy Completion

This cycle repeats three times:

  1. Nobodies Arc I → Full Session I

  2. Nobodies Arc II → Full Session II

  3. Nobodies Arc III → Full Session III

After the third full session…
The campaign arc concludes—your trilogy is complete. Or is it?

House Rule #1: You Are Not the Main Character (At First)

Unlike traditional campaigns:

  • No single protagonist

  • No guaranteed spotlight

  • No assumed importance

Instead:

  • Importance is earned through survival, choices, and consequences

  • Characters may rise… or disappear into the void

House Rule #2: Timeline Lock (Critical Rule)

We are using source material from the WEG system—but with one key restriction:

🚫 Players should NOT reference or utilize “endgame” or advanced campaign material until after the FIRST full group session.

This preserves:

  • Discovery

  • Mystery

  • Organic narrative growth

If it feels like you’re missing context—good.
So is your character.

House Rule #3: Persistent Galaxy State

Everything matters.

  • Actions in Nobodies sessions carry forward

  • Locations evolve

  • NPCs remember

  • The Empire adapts

House Rule #4: Asynchronous Storytelling

Not every player will:

  • Be present every session

  • Know every detail

  • Share the same timeline awareness

This is intentional.

The truth exists—but no one sees all of it.

House Rule #5: Communication is Canon

The official in-universe/public-facing communications hubs are:

👉 @WookieBurgers on X: https://x.com/WookieBurgers
👉 Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2445484979233646
👉 Live Streams & Video Content on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@themysticsyndicate

These channels are not just promotion—they are part of the experience. For example, below is the backstory of one of the characters, Goat the Wookie played by TheJ011yR0ger, done entirely in Wookie (with Subtitles).

House Rule #6: The Living Media Layer

The YouTube channel is an extension of the campaign itself, and content will be released in multiple formats:

🎮 Gaming Sessions (Live Play)

  • Full, unedited sessions

  • Raw decisions, mistakes, and improvisation

  • The purest form of the story as it unfolds

🎬 Edited Gaming Sessions (Enhanced Episodes)

  • Cinematic edits with:

    • Special effects

    • Sound design

    • Visual overlays

  • These transform gameplay into episodic Star Wars-style storytelling

📡 Campaign Content & Lore Drops

  • In-universe transmissions

  • Character backstories

  • Location briefings (Bothawui, Mesa 291, etc.)

  • “Wookie Burgers” ads and propaganda

👀 Watch-Alongs (Meta Layer)

When edited episodes are released:

  • Players may participate in Watch Along sessions

  • Commentary reveals:

    • Hidden connections

    • Overlapping timelines

    • “What was really happening” behind the scenes

This is where the Nobodies finally see how everything interconnects.

House Rule #7: Tone & Theme

This is NOT a Jedi power fantasy (at least not yet).

Themes include:

  • Survival over heroism

  • Moral ambiguity

  • The cost of rebellion

  • Identity and secrecy

House Rule #8: The Force is Awakening (Slowly)

Across the campaign:

  • The Force begins as a whisper

  • Then becomes a signal

  • Then… something undeniable

House Rule #9: Death is Real

No plot armor.

  • Bad decisions = consequences

  • Combat is lethal

  • Retreat is valid

House Rule #10: Canon vs. Table Canon

We respect Star Wars lore—but:

  • Table Canon overrides everything

  • The galaxy changes based on player action

Final Thoughts: Becoming Somebody

You begin as a Nobody.

Through isolated missions, fragmented knowledge, and unseen consequences…
you become part of something larger.

And when the Watch-Alongs begin - you may finally understand just how deep it all went.
